When a driveway cracks, ruts, or sinks, the surface usually gets the blame. Most of the time, though, the real problem is a foot down: a soft subgrade, a thin base, or water that has nowhere to go. Fix the base and the surface on top lasts a lot longer, often by many years.
Our driveway prep in Naples covers everything under the finished surface. We strip topsoil and soft material, remove old asphalt or concrete when needed, shape the subgrade with a crown or cross slope, and place road base in compacted lifts. For gravel drives we finish with a top course that locks together. For asphalt or concrete, we leave a tight, graded base ready for the surface crew.
We know Naples soils, freeze and thaw swings, and how heavy work trucks wear on a drive, and we build each base for that.
Loaders, graders, and plate and roller compactors let us build a solid base on a short drive or a long lane.
If your old base is still good, we'll reuse it, and if it isn't, we'll show you why before anything gets hauled.
We keep road base off your lawn and street, clean up the driveway edges, and haul away the old material.
Naples has a mix of driveways you won’t find in every town: short drives in newer subdivisions, long lanes on older properties with a few acres, and wide gravel yards for shops and equipment. They all depend on the same thing, a firm, well drained base. Organic topsoil, wet clay, or loose fill under any surface will move eventually, and when it does the surface goes with it.
Prep is the one point in the process where getting it right is cheap. Once a driveway is paved, fixing the base means tearing the surface out first. That’s why we spend more time on the layers you’ll never see than on the one you will. A driveway built this way handles snow, heavy trucks, and hot summer sun without breaking up after a few seasons.
Many of the driveways we rebuild already have something on them, usually cracked asphalt or broken concrete laid over a thin base years ago. Paving over a failed surface just copies the cracks into the new one. Concrete and asphalt removal clears the old material so we can dig out soft spots and start fresh.
Sometimes the old gravel underneath is still usable. If it’s clean and well graded, we can regrade and compact it as part of the new base instead of hauling it away.
A lot of properties around Naples sit back from the road on bigger lots, and gravel is the practical choice for those long lanes. We build them from the ground up: strip the soft soil, shape a crown down the middle so water runs to the edges, set road base in compacted layers, and finish with a top course that binds together instead of rolling under tires.
Ditches along the sides give snowmelt somewhere to go, and soft stretches get dug out and replaced with better material so the lane holds up through spring. A lane built right handles delivery trucks, hay trailers, and the plow without turning into a washboard by summer.
Every driveway is different, so we pin down a few things during the site visit:
Getting those answers up front lets us set the right base depth and slope for your driveway, instead of guessing and hoping it holds.
With SR-45 heading south toward Bonanza, a lot of Naples driveways and yards see work trucks, flatbeds, and oilfield equipment. Those loads turn and brake in the same spots every day, so turnarounds and approaches get extra base depth and extra compaction. Equipment yards often need a thicker base across the whole area, not just the drive in.
Winter adds another layer of stress. Nights near 10°F followed by sunny afternoons mean the ground freezes and thaws over and over in late fall and early spring. Water trapped in the base expands and lifts the surface, then leaves voids behind. If water already runs across the driveway route, drainage solutions should go in before any base does.
Once the base is shaped, compacted, and checked for grade, it’s ready for whatever goes on top. For gravel, we finish the top course ourselves. If you’re planning concrete, your concrete contractor pours on the base we build. For blacktop, we can move straight into asphalt paving, so one crew handles the whole job from dirt to driveway.
