Duchesne gets more snow than most of the Basin, and every bit of it melts somewhere. When that water slips into a crack and freezes on a night near 10 degrees, it pushes the asphalt apart a little more. Do that all winter and a hairline crack turns into a pothole by April.
Our asphalt repair work in Duchesne covers crack sealing, pothole repair, and patching for home driveways, RV pads, and private lanes. We clean and seal open cracks, cut out broken sections down to solid base, and rebuild them with hot mix. We also look at what caused the damage in the first place, whether it’s a soft spot, standing water, or a heavy trailer parked in the same place all year, so the repair actually holds.
We understand how heavy snow, cold January nights, and summer sun at Duchesne's elevation wear down driveway asphalt over time.
We show up with crack sealing kettles, saws, compactors, and hot mix, so patches are built to last instead of just filled in.
If a few repairs will carry your driveway for years, we'll say so, and we'll say so if they won't.
Cut asphalt, pulled weeds, and debris go with us, and your driveway is swept and ready to use when we leave.
Around 29 inches of snow a year means a lot of shoveling, and a lot of piles sitting next to the driveway. On a sunny afternoon those piles melt and run across the pavement. At night the water freezes wherever it ended up, including inside every open crack. That daily cycle is the main reason driveways in town break down faster than you’d expect for such a dry climate.
The good news is that most of this damage starts small. Catching it while it’s still a crack or a shallow chip is far cheaper than waiting until the base gets wet and the surface caves in. A quick walk down the driveway each spring, after the last big melt, tells you a lot. Look for new cracks, edges that have crumbled, and spots that stayed wet longer than the rest.
Crack sealing is the most affordable asphalt repair there is. We clean the crack out with air, remove weeds and loose debris, and fill it with a hot rubberized sealant that stays flexible in cold weather. It moves as the pavement expands in July and shrinks in January instead of popping loose.
Late summer and early fall are the best time to seal, after the surface has dried out and before the first hard freeze. A driveway sealed in September goes into winter with its cracks closed off to melt water.
Goatheads, bindweed, kochia, and cheatgrass all love a crack in the asphalt. Their roots widen the gap and hold moisture against the edges, and once the plant dies back, the crack is bigger than it was before. Spraying alone won’t fix it. We pull the growth, clean the crack, and seal it so there’s nothing left for seeds to take root in.
If weeds keep creeping in from the yard or the edge of the driveway, regular weed control along the borders slows them down between repairs.
A pothole means water has already reached the base. Throwing cold patch in the hole gets you through a week or two, but it rarely survives a winter. A lasting pothole repair follows a few steps:
Cold patch still has a place for a winter emergency, but we’ll come back with hot mix once temperatures allow. Skipping the square cut or the seam seal is the most common reason a patch pops out after one season.
Some damage shows up in the same place on almost every Duchesne property. The pad where a camper or boat trailer sits between trips to Starvation carries a lot of weight in one spot. The apron where the driveway meets the street takes a beating from plows. Edges along gravel or lawn break off when tires drift over the side.
Those areas often need a thicker patch than the rest of the drive. If water from a nearby slope or wash keeps soaking the same corner, we may suggest drainage solutions so the repair doesn’t fail for the same reason the original asphalt did.
If the damage is limited to cracks and a few bad spots, repair makes sense every time. If cracking covers most of the surface but the base is still firm, a new layer may be the better spend, and we’ll talk through asphalt resurfacing with you honestly. If the whole driveway is sinking or breaking up, patching just delays the bill. We’ll show you what we see and let you make the call.
We walk your driveway, mark every crack, pothole, and soft spot, and look for the water or weight causing the damage.
You get a free written quote that lists each repair, so you can tackle the urgent ones first if budget is tight.
We seal cracks, saw cut and rebuild failed spots, compact hot mix patches, and seal the seams against snowmelt.
We look over each repair with you, explain when you can drive on the patches, and point out spots to keep an eye on.
